Course Description:

The state of Georgia and several other states now require at least 6 hours of Telemental health training for Professional Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists and Social Workers.  Any licensed professional who is conducting/providing any form of telemental health services must complete the required continuing education hours pursuant to the new board rule.  Telemental health counseling includes any use of the phone, Skype, text, iphone app or other technology to provide clinical services or crisis intervention.
The rapid innovation and expansion of technology in general has created a plethora of opportunities and challenges for counselors.  This course addresses the legal and ethical challenges that are posed by telemental health including safety, privacy, working across state lines, government access to records, encryptions contraindications and much more.  The benefits and limitations of telemental health are also explored for counselors. 
Course Objectives:
By the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • Identify and describe the media used in telemental health
  • Identify and describe current legal and ethical issues is telemental health
