About Our Founder

Olísa Yaa Tolókun

  

Olísa Yaa Omíyale Tolókun is the founder and president of the Sakhu School of Psychology. She is the author of its Ph.D. in Afrikana Psychology curriculum and the creator of all of the school’s certification programs. Qualified applicants can be certified in Afrikana Psychology, Afrikana Spiritual Coaching, Certified Life Coaching, and Afrikana Genealogy. Professor Tolókun’s certification program in Afrikana Psychology has been approved by the National Association of Black Psychologists, and the school’s continuing education program for licensed mental health professionals is approved by NBCC (the National Board for Certified Counselors). Olísa Yaa Tolókun is also the Executive Director of Sankofa Psychological Services of Atlanta, Georgia. She is licensed as a professional counselor (LPC) and an addictions counselor. She is also a certified spiritual coach. 

Professor Tolókun is also a faculty member at Clark Atlanta University and a part-time professor at Spelman College. She teaches Afrikana Psychology, Personality Development, Afrikana Women’s Studies, Afrikan Diaspora and the World and other courses. Olisa Yaa Tolókun holds a master’s degree from Florida A&M University’s coveted Afrikan-centered Community Psychology program. She earned bachelor’s degrees in Afrikana Studies and Psychology from Howard University. She also holds a cultural competency credential in Afrikan-centered/Black Psychology through the National Association of Black Psychologists, and she conceived the first curriculum that was approved for the organization’s certification process.

Olísa Yaa Omíyále Tolókun is an Apetebí (wife of the divinity Ọ̀rúnmìlà), and Íyaloríṣa (initiated priestess) of Ọṣún in the Ifá/Oríṣa tradition of the Yorùbá people. She is also a devotee of DamballaWedo and mother of many.

What we do

The Sakhu School of Psychology provides Afrikan centered continuing education for iicensed mental health professionals.  We train culturally competent counselors to support Black women, men  and families through the therapuetic process.  The Sakhu School is approved by the NBCC (National Board for Certified Counselors).  The We also provide certifications in Afrikana Psychology, Afrikana Spiritual Coaching, Certified Life Coaching and Afrikana Genealogy.




Continuing education for Licensed therapists

Our continuing education program is approved by the NBCC (National Board for Certified Counselors). Our provider number is 6451. We specialize in culturally competent courses for licensed mental health professionals. We offer traditional and online courses, including books for credit.
